A Smolensk student is a world champion

From 15th to 23rd of July Kazan hosted the World Fencing Championship. In the final individual tournament a student of the Smolensk State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism Alexey Cheremisinov gained a confident victory. He defeated the representative of China Ma Tszyanfey with a score of 15:11 and became the world champion in foil.

Having won the gold medal, Alexey Cheremisinov brought back the men's foil crown to his home country, which the Russians have not won since 1995, when a foil fencer Dmitry Shevchenko rose to the highest step of the podium at the individual tournament.

It is not the first major award of the international competitions for Alexey Cheremisinov. The Smolensk student won the European Championship in 2012, last year he was the best foil fencer of the World Summer Universiade. Alexey Cheremisinov is also a multiple prize winner of the continental championships in the individual and team competitions.
