Smolensk region is among the leaders in social services for the population

At the State Council Presidium meeting on developing the social protection system for senior citizens, chaired by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Smolensk region was named among the leaders in the legal aspects.

Among the important issues discussed at the meeting there was improvement of the socio-economic status of the elderly, providing jobs for pensioners, the implementation of the sub-program "Accessible Environment", issues of the public-private partnership. Development of the social services market was identified as one of the priorities: improving their quality and availability, developing and consolidation of new social practices.

The law “On Basic Principles of Social Service for Citizens in Russia” comes into force on January 1, 2015. At the meeting of the State Council the Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the country Maxim Topilin named Smolensk region among the four regions, where preparation for the implementation of the new law is the most active and fruitful.

In Smolensk region the overwhelming majority of the 27 legal acts have been adopted. By the beginning of next year, the regional Administration will provide all the necessary legal framework.
