Alexey Ostrovskiy took part in the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of Desnogorsk

The youngest town in the Smolensk region, which officially appeared on the map of the region in 1974, celebrated its birthday. Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy took part in the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of Desnogorsk.

Desnogorsk appeared four decades ago as a settlement for the builders of the Smolensk nuclear power station and became the fastest developing town of the Smolensk region, with the especially beautiful landscaping and substantial social support to its residents. This is one of the few towns across the country, where the demographic situation has almost always remained good. The base for the development of the town is the operation of the Smolensk Nuclear Power Station (SNPS) - the largest company of the region and one of the leading energy companies in the country. Smolensk Nuclear Power Station repeatedly and rightfully has become the best in the industry.

According to the tradition the Town Day celebrations began with a parade of the employees of the companies and organizations of Desnogorsk. The main street was filled with the parade column, decorated with colorful balloons, flowers, flags and banners.

After the festive parade, in which several thousand people took part, the residents and guests of the town were greeted by the Head of the region. Alexey Ostrovskiy presented the outstanding residents of Desnogorsk with the Diplomas from the Smolensk regional Administration and the Letters of Appreciation from the Governor. The Special Diploma was awarded to the team of the Smolensk Nuclear Power Station.

Then the anniversary celebrations were continued with the various concert program which attracted attention both the young residents Desnogorsk, and the adult ones.

On the same day on the square in front of the Town Administration there was the opening ceremony of the monument to the builders of Desnogorsk and the Smolensk Nuclear Power Station. The author of the new attraction of Desnogorsk is the sculptor Igor Chumakov.
