Celebrating the Day of Liberation of Smolensk region

This year, the regional center celebrates the 71st anniversary of the liberation of Smolensk region from the Nazi invaders. On this special day Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy took part in the ceremony at the Fire of Eternal Glory.

The war veterans, home front workers, soldiers of the Smolensk garrison, representatives of NGOs, university and school students, guests of the city from various regions of Russia, brotherly Belarus and abroad were at the meeting.

The participants of the ceremony observed a minute of silence in memory of the dead, laid flowers at the Eternal Flame.

Also, on that day Alexey Ostrovskiy took part in the reception in honor of the veterans of the Great Patriotic War.

There were honorable and dear guests: war veterans and those who helped to forge victory behind the front lines, all those who went along that difficult and long way.
