A high-tech dialysis center was opened in Smolensk region

Smolensk nephrology has stepped to a qualitatively new level – a Fresenius dialysis center, which was long-awaited by the patients with chronic renal failure, was opened in the regional center. The new center will provide regular outpatient care.

The opening of the dialysis center in Smolensk is a vivid example of harmonious interaction between the government and business, of the work of public-private partnerships in the region. The project has been realized within the framework of the agreement between the regional Administration and the Fresenius Medical Care company (Germany). The construction and equipment of the medical institution have been carried out at the expense of the Fresenius Medical Care company - the total amount of its investment in the project amounted to more than 250 million Rubles.

The opening of the new center with the capacity of 37 thousand procedures a year will completely solve the problem of shortage of dialysis sites and will largely meet the needs of the region in the future. The dialysis center is designed for 40 "artificial kidney" apparatuses of the new generation. Currently, the Regional Health Department has sent about 100 patients to receive the hemodialysis procedure in the Center, 10 people will be provided with everything necessary for peritoneal dialysis there. But the capacity of the dialysis center allows to receive up to 240 hemodialysis patients and up to 100 patients who need peritoneal dialysis.

It should be noted that hemodialysis is the most common compensation method of kidney function. It accounts for more than 70% in the overall structure of renal replacement therapy in Russia. Hemodialysis is performed on an outpatient basis with the help of the "artificial kidney" apparatus and requires special conditions.

The new center will not only help patients with chronic renal failure, but it will also provide up to 70 jobs for highly skilled doctors-nephrologists, dialysis nurses and other staff. Additional tax revenues to the regional budget should also be taken into account.

In Smolensk, a clinic of the Fresenius dialysis centers network will allow patients with kidney disease to get affordable and timely medical care that meets the highest European standards. Currently, 32 dialysis centers of the company operate in the Russian Federation.
