The farm animals fair

Alexey Ostrovskiy visited the regional fair of farm animals, which takes place on the basis of JSC "Smolenskoe" for breeding”. During the day the heads and specialists of the farms of the region, residents and visitors of Smolensk examined the exposition and attended the workshops and “round table” discussions.

The annual farm animals fair was held in Smolensk region from the first half of the 20th century to 1990. The tradition of holding this event was resumed only in 2013. The fair is held to promote and put into practice the experience of breeding and reproduction of the herd, to identify outstanding breeding farm animals, raised on the breeding farms of the region, to conclude contracts for the supply of breeding produce.

This year the fair was attended by the veterans of the agricultural industry, the representatives of the Agriculture Ministry of the Russian Federation, the head center for the reproduction of farm animals, the Agricultural Sciences Department of the Russian Science Academy and the Federal Agency of scientific organizations, the delegations of relevant ministries and departments of the neighboring regions of Russia and Belarus. Moreover, scientists, researchers and lecturers of the Smolensk Academy of Agriculture, farmers, managers and specialists of agricultural companies, banking and insurance institutions, working in the agricultural credit and insurance sector, also participated in the exhibition.

Addressing the participants of the agricultural festival, Acting Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy said: "I am in a very good mood, because every year we and, first and foremost, the Smolensk farmers and managers at the municipal level, the regional Administration, are showing new, better figures compared with last year. Three years ago the fair was attended by a total of 12 enterprises; today 48 companies are represented here. Many guests from other regions of the Russian Federation, from the brotherly Republic of Belarus, in particular, of the Vitebsk region, come to visit us. I think the dynamics are very good".

Alexey Ostrovskiy also spoke about the investors, operating successfully in beef and dairy cattle area, who are coming to Smolensk region. "This year the company "Miratorg", which is a leader among manufacturers and suppliers of meat in the Russian market, is coming to the region after a year of consultations and signing the agreement. Four farms are going to be built this year, and, in the future, in agreement with the management of the company, we plan to build and launch 12-13 farms, which means new jobs and tax revenues".

Acting Governor said that this year, with the support of the regional Administration and the Federation, a new farm of the company "Zolotaya Niva" will be opened in the Dorogobuzh district. The construction of the second part of the company with a triple increase in livestock will bring to the assets of the region not only new jobs for the local population, and the additional tax revenue, but it also will improve the development prospects for the social infrastructure of the municipality.

"We are making great progress in breeding, and the Administration of the region is very pleased with the work of the breeding center on the territory of the Smolensk district, which is headed by Nikolay Nikolaevich Shumeyko. The machines for selling tasty and healthy milk are also his achievement. The support of the project and positive feedback from the Smolensk residents will lead to expanding the network of the dairy machines and placing them in the major district centers in the near future",- said the Head of the region.

As part of the opening ceremony, Alexey Ostrovskiy presented the Letters of Recognition from the Agriculture Ministry of Russia to the best specialists of the agricultural industry. After that, together with the guests, he walked round the fair. Cattle, goats, sheep, various breeds of chickens, geese, quail, rabbits, bees, fish species, bred on the territory of Smolensk region, were presented there.

Also, the guests could examine the stands and exhibits, in particular, samples of dairy equipment, feed additives, veterinary drugs, take part in various “round table” discussions, workshops and master classes.

The management of the agro-complex also plans to raise goats and sell the end products.
