Opening the meeting, the Head of the region addressed the audience: "Dear and respected veterans of the Great Patriotic War, juvenile prisoners of concentration camps, blockade survivors, home front workers, all of you, who gave us the opportunity to celebrate our special national holiday - the Day of Russia! Not everyone fully understands its importance for our country. The terrible events that are happening in brotherly and dear to our heart Ukraine only a few hundred kilometers away show how important the independence and sovereignty of the state is, how important it is that only the people elect the Head of state, its leaders of their own free will. Let's not forget about it. Once again, have a happy holiday! Have fun and smile!".

After the meeting, there was a ceremony of handing over the passports of citizens of the Russian Federation - 14-year-old residents of Smolensk got your main document from the hands of the Acting Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy.
