The Moscow Theater "Sovremennik" performed "The Cherry Orchard" for the Smolensk residents
The conference hall of the "Arena" Hotel of the Smolensk State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism hosted the official opening of the cultural and social program "Theatrical province". Hundreds of Smolensk spectators could see the online-broadcast of the play "The Cherry Orchard" based on the immortal work by the Russian classic Anton Chekhov, which was performed by the Moscow Theater "Sovremennik".
The organizers of the project are the Administration of Smolensk region, the Smolensk State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism and the charity foundation "Peace and harmony" with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The main idea of the project is to introduce the best Moscow and St. Petersburg theater performances to the audience of the Russian cities online. The main objective of the program dedicated to the Year of Russian literature is to attract new fans, especially young people, to theater and literature.
"This format - online demonstration of a theatrical performance - is realized in Smolensk region for the first time,- said the Vice-Governor Olga Okuneva. – The people of Smolensk are very interested in this project, which makes us very happy. Taking into consideration the fact that the Smolensk land is the homeland of many famous writers, film and theater actors, it is also a unique gift for us in gratitude for their work. Everything which is somehow related to the cultural sphere of Russia is very appealing for Smolensk region. Thanks to this amazing project, the residents of Smolensk will be able to enjoy productions of the great directors performed by well-known actors. Without visiting Moscow, they will be able to enjoy the art and amazing acting in their home city and come home with wonderful impressions".
Shooting in the theater hall is done with six cameras. The director mounts the video online, and then it is transferred to the screen through a high-speed Internet channel. Thanks to different camera angles and close-ups the audience sitting in a cinema hall can see even more than the theater audience.
"Theatrical province" will allow the audience in the regions to see almost the entire repertoire of the main stage of The A.P. Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre and of the Moscow Theater “Sovremennik” in real time mode, simultaneously with the capital theater-goers. These are the two metropolitan theaters currently participating in the program.
The organizers are sure that the implementation of the program "Theatrical province" will facilitate creating a favorable cultural environment in the region, a better understanding of Russian literature, as well as strengthening family values and traditions. The next performance will be shown in Smolensk on September 1. It is planned that this will be a children's show dedicated to the Day of Knowledge.
