There will an exhibition of works of People

As part of the anniversary activities dedicated to the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, from November 13 to December 20 the Historical Museum of the Smolensk State Museum-Resort will host an exhibition of works of People's Artist of the USSR, academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Shilov "They fought for their country!".

The project of mobile thematic exhibitions in the Hero-Cities and cities of Military Glory, supported by the Russian President Vladimir Putin, was a huge success in Orel, Volgograd, Tula, Sevastopol and other Russian cities, as well as in Minsk. In accordance with the instructions of the Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy, in Smolensk Hero-City this unique exhibition will open on November 13 at 16:00.

The exposition includes 31 pictures, depicting the feat of heroes of the Great Patriotic War. Images of people who devoted their lives to serving their homeland are one of the main themes in the works of Alexander Shilov. "Such concepts such as love for the Homeland, willingness to defend it, the image of a man standing on guard of the Homeland, was always very close to me," - says the artist. Throughout his career the artist has been creating pictorial chronicle of a truly heroic generation. The paintings of the artist are a hymn to the courage, generosity and strength of the indomitable spirit of the defenders of the Homeland, the patriotism and spiritual beauty of our nation which defeated the Hitler's hordes.

The gallery of portraits of heroic personalities is comprised of the portraits of the legendary intelligence officers - Hero of the Soviet Union Vartanian G.A., George Blake, Ivanov L.G., Hero of Russia Botyan A.N. In his paintings the artist depicted as real aces, desperate and brave pilots - Heroes of the Soviet Union Emelianenko V.B. and Popov N.V., Hero of the Russian Federation Rubtsov I.F.

Extremely interesting and expressive portraits of great artists, participants of the Great Patriotic War - the USSR People's Artist Yevgeny Matveyev and Vladimir Etush, the playwright Viktor Rozov, the composer Yan Frenkel, People's Artist of Russia, pianist David Lerner and others are displayed at the exhibition. Visitors will see the portraits of priests, who experienced the war - these paintings reflect the special power of the Russian soldier, his spiritual power. These are portraits of nuns Pyutitsa monastery nun Adriana "For Faith and Fatherland!", Bishop Basil (Rodzianko), and the deacon, the father of Nikolai, whose images are lit with kindness and faith.

No visitor will stay indifferent with the paintings dedicated to the social issues "The Forgotten", "The Abandoned", "Soldiers' Mothers". The images of our contemporaries, captured with the inspired brush of the master are filled with patriotism and deep emotions.

After Smolensk Hero-City the exhibition will go to Belgorod, Stary Oskol and Arkhangelsk.
