Alexey Ostrovskiy met with the daughters of Alexander Tvardovskiy
Since 2005, Smolensk region has been hosting the annual Tvardovskiy readings to mark the anniversary of the poet's death (December 18, 1971). This year this is the 11th time they have been held. On the opening day of the literary readings the Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy had tea with the poet’s daughters, Valentina and Olga Tvardovskiy. They discussed the issue of commemorating our famous countryman, the author of the famous poem "Vasily Terkin" and "Distance after distance", in Smolensk region.
The famous poet’s daughters, just like their father, achieved a lot in their professions. The elder daughter, Valentina, is a doctor of historical sciences. From 1959 she worked in the Institute of History of the USSR of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (now the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences). She is the author of over 100 scientific papers. The younger daughter, Olga, is a theater and cinema artist, a winner of the State Prize of Russia (1999) and international competitions in Yugoslavia, Latvia, Czechoslovakia. As a stage designer she designed productions in the theaters of Moscow, Tomsk, Omsk, Lipetsk, as well as Japan, Germany and the United States. Olga and Valentina Tvardovskiy devote a great part of their life to tremendous work they are doing to promote and commemorate the works their world-famous father.
Speaking about this at the meeting with the Head of the region, the daughters of Alexander Tvardovskiy brought up the issue of the creating in Smolensk region a museum, where they could donate a part of the archives and books from the personal library of their father with the autographs of contemporary writers, his personal belongings and household items from the his working study, a set of magazines "New World", at which Alexander Trofonovich Tvardovsky worked as an editor. A project of this museum was published by Valentina and Olga Tvardovskiy in the magazine "Smolenskaya doroga".
