The meeting of the Regional Antiterrorist Commission

The Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy held a planned joint meeting of the Antiterrorist Commission and the Operational Headquarters in Smolensk region, with five issues on the agenda.

First of all, the meeting discussed the aspects of anti-terrorist security and law and order on the territory of Smolensk region during the New Year and Christmas holidays.

In the reports of the law enforcement officials it was said that more than 2,000 events, which are supposed to be attended by over 300 thousand of Smolensk and visitors to the region, are scheduled in the towns and districts of the region on these days. Considerable number of employees of internal affairs, grassroot security teams, Cossacks, private security companies, as well as Special Forces will be engaged to ensure the safety of citizens and protection of public order. Patrols are supposed to be placed to the venues of mass gatherings as close as possible.

Currently, complex inspections of facilities for holding New Year and Christmas celebrations and festivals for a great number of people are being carried throughout the region to assess their fire safety and anti-terrorism level. Also, special attention is paid to quality control of pyrotechnic products; places of their storage and sale are being inspected. To avoid possible negative effects of fireworks in the municipalities specially equipped areas with healthcare workers on duty are assigned by the local authorities.

The technical condition of vehicles involved in transporting children and students to the places of celebrations, the operational condition of the roads on the routes they follow are being checked. In addition, more than 700 meetings and preventive discussions were held with the management and staff of the educational institutions, leaders and activists of the public, especially youth associations, national diasporas.
