In Smolensk region there were traditional commemorative events dedicated to the celebration of the 74th anniversary of the Vyazma airborne operation. The main venue for holding them was the "Memory Field" memorial in Sychovka. The war veterans, representatives of regional authorities, local residents, paratroopers of the Airborne Forces got together to honor the feat of the heroes-paratroopers.

The Vyazma airborne operation took place in January-February of 1942, when the largest in the history of the war squad of paratroopers - more than 10 thousand soldiers - landed in the German rear. Having covered more than 600 kilometers, they released about 200 settlements, destroyed about 15 thousand Nazis and numerous pieces of military equipment in six months.

The meeting continued with laying wreaths and flowers at the memorial and the march of the Guards of Honor. The event continued in the central square of Sychevka where the soldiers of the 106th Guards Airborne Division gave a spectacular demonstration of martial arts techniques. At the end of the event there was a festive concert of the "Winged Guards" band.
