The Deputy Governor - Head of the Administrative Department of Smolensk region Administration Lev Platonov chaired a regular meeting of the Coordinating Council on the boarder policy.

It was attended by the head of the Department on monitoring and interacting with the administrative bodies Oksana Loboda, the head of the Border Guard Department of Federal Security Service of Russia in Smolensk region Andrey Pavlov, heads and representatives of regional departments, the regional Directorate of the Federal Migratory Service, the law enforcement agencies and municipalities.

The meeting addressed the issue of counteraction to illegal migration and illegal attempts to cross the Russian-Belarusian border. Special attention was paid to additional measures to increase the level of interaction of the power block, executive authorities and local governments of the bordering municipalities.

One of the main threats to the security of the Russian Federation border, typical for the areas bordering on the Republic of Belarus, is illegal migration. Taking into consideration the importance of the issue, constant interaction with the Belarusian counterparts has been established. There is constructive interaction between the Federal Migratory Service of Russia and Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk and Mogilev regional executive committees. The border agencies of the Internal Affairs authorities of Belarus are constantly sent information on the operational and preventive measures to detect and prevent illegal migration held in the territory of Smolensk region. Also, the Belarusian counterparts are informed about the results of the joint preventive operations. The similar information is provided by the Departments of Internal Affairs of the Vitebsk and Mogilev regional executive committees to our law enforcement agencies.

Joint systematic work of the Russian and Belarusian specialists brings positive results. The migration situation in Smolensk region is characterized as stable and under control.
