The Glinka Festival was founded in 1957 on the initiative of the People's Artist of the USSR Ivan Kozlovsky, and since then it has been a great musical feast for the Smolensk residents. Traditionally, the Festival starts on the last Friday of May.

The Moscow "Russian Philharmonic" Orchestra under the conduct of Fabio Mastrangelo performed the works by Aram Khachaturian and Jacob Gade, as well as excerpts from operas by Alexander Borodin, Petr Tchaikovsky, Maurice Ravel. The artist of the Bolshoi Theatre Daria Zykova performed the solo.

The festival will end on June 5 with a gala concert in the homeland of the composer in the Novospasskoe village and a performance of the State Academic Choreographic group "Berezka" on the stage of the Smolensk Drama Theatre.
