The International Rosavtodor rally "Roads of memory" in Smolensk region

On June 19-20, Smolensk region became a part of the route of the Rosavtodor rally "Roads of memory". The professional of the road industry from the three countries - Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan - visited Smolensk and Velizh, where they held a patriotic ceremony dedicated to the memory of the Great Patriotic War.

The rally, which unites the city of military glory of Russia and Belarus, was launched on June 12 in Murmansk. For 10 days, they covered about 3.5 thousand kilometers in the Republic of Karelia, The Murmansk, Leningrad, Pskov, Smolensk, Bryansk regions and on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. The rally will finish in Brest on June 22 on the day of the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, where the symbolic capsule with the soil from all the 13 Hero-Cities will be delivered.

Besides, the task of this patriotic action is to assess the state of the federal road network and to discuss the development directions of the key road corridors in the north-western and western parts of the Russian Federation. According to the organizers, a special attention will be paid to the objects of the road network, the funds to repair which have been allocated this summer.

At the border of the Velizh district and the Pskov region the rally participants were met by the representatives of the Regional Department of Transport and Road Construction, headed by its chief Vladimir Shukalov, and in Velizh itself the rally was warmly greeted by its residents.

From Velizh the rally moved on to Smolensk, where the participants laid flowers and wreaths to the Eternal Fire of Glory in the Memorial Park of Heroes.

Also, the Deputy Head of the Federal Road Agency Igor Astakhov examined the sections of the road P-120 Orel - Bryansk - Smolensk - the border with Belarus. Earlier, during the rally, the Head of the Federal Road Agency Roman Starovoit said this year that more than 3.3 billion rubles will be allocated from the federal road fund to develop the road infrastructure in our region. These funds will allow to repair by the end of the road season more than 50 kilometers of coverage on highways A-120 and A-130, put into operation a new overpass over the railway at the 394-kilometer in the Katyn village, to construct elevated pedestrian crossing and an electric line on road P-120, as well as to carry out the scheduled measures to improve the roads of regional significance.
