Alexey Ostrovskiy presented mothers of large families with "Maternal Glory" plaques

On the Day of Family, Love and Faithfulness the Regional Philharmonic hosted a ceremony of awarding mothers of large families with honorary plaque of Smolensk region "Maternal Glory" named after Anna Timofeevna Gagarina. The Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy presented this high award to 14 women living in the region for their merits in bringing up children and strengthening the family traditions.

Also, married couples-centenarians were celebrated on this day. The public award - a commemorative medal "For love and faithfulness" was founded in Russia specially for the Day of Family, Love and Faithfulness. It is awarded to exemplary married couples, who have been married for 25 years. 14 families received this honorary award from the hands of the Head of the region for strengthening the institution of a family and proper upbringing of children.

In accordance with the regional law "On the honor plaque of Smolensk region "Maternal Glory” named after Anna Timofeevna Gagarina, 201 mothers of large families have been already awarded this plaque. On the initiative of Alexey Ostrovskiy the "Maternal Glory" plaques are awarded not only to mothers of large families but also to guardians (trustees) who brought up three or more children to the age of 18. All mothers awarded a plaque also receive a cash award.

390 married couples in Smolensk region have already received the public award - medal «For love and faithfulness" since its establishment. This medal is awarded to couples who registered their marriage at least 25 years ago, have become well-known among the fellow-citizens for strong family traditions based on mutual love and faithfulness, achieved well-being through joint work, and raised children as worthy members of society.

Alexey Ostrovskiy said that the administration of the region is trying to use all available opportunities to increase budget revenues and investment potential, preserve and introduce new social benefits annually. The Head of the region noted that the social policy of Smolensk region is considered one of the most efficient in the Central Federal District, both in the number of benefits, and the size of their cash equivalent. A recent visit to Smolensk region of the Vice-Premier of the Russian Government for Social Affairs Olga Golodets and her public evaluation of the work of regional authorities merely confirms it.

The ceremony ended with a performance of the best creative artistic teams.

The festive events dedicated to the Day of Family, Love and Faithfulness today took place in all the municipalities of the region.
