The Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy took part in the Board meeting of the Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Smolensk region

The Head of the region took part in the extended board meeting of the Investigation Directorate of the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation in Smolensk region, dedicated to summarizing the performance of the Committee in the first half of 2016.

The Head of the Investigation Directorate of the Investigation Committee of Russia in Smolensk region Igor Balaev positively assessed the performance of the Committee during the reporting period, and said that in the first quarter of this year the regional Directorate was rated 26th among all the subjects of the Federation in terms of efficiency.

The Board meeting noted that in the first half of the year the effectiveness of the investigation was 90%. The employees of the Investigation Directorate investigated 440 crimes, 208 of which were serious and high crimes, as well as 18 crimes of the past years. 22 crimes of corruption were sent to court for trial.

In his opening speech, Alexey Ostrovskiy stressed that the agency should impartially fight corruption in the region, regardless of the level of the officials.

There is no doubt that an important area in the work of the Investigation Committee is prevention of  tax crimes, since it is tax revenues to budgets of all levels that fulfillment of social obligations of the public authorities to population depends on. According to the Governor, this work should be under special control as it is connected with the social orientation of the regional budget.

Also, the Head of the region pointed out the work of the agency to protect the rights of the Smolensk residents in the sphere of remuneration - this problem, unfortunately, is relevant for the whole country and for our region in particular. Only in the first half of the year in  Smolensk region five criminal cases of non-payment of salaries were initiated. Alexey Ostrovskiy said that heads of companies and organizations that do not pay their employees should be punished.

At the end of his speech, Alexey Ostrovskiy emphasized the positive work of the Committee in many directions and expressed confidence that the staff of the Regional Investigation Directorate will continue to efficiently resolve problems facing the investigation authorities.
