A working meeting of Alexey Ostrovskiy with the Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia

The Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy held a working meeting with Astra Kurme, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia in the Russian Federation.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor Ilona Krotova, the head of the Russian Foreign Office in Smolensk Andrei Linev and the Latvian diplomats.

The parties discussed the state and prospects of cooperation between Smolensk region and Latvia in the sphere of developing cultural and trade-economic connections.

Alexey Ostrovskiy and Astra Kurme emphasized that there is considerable scope for the development of mutually beneficial economic relations in various areas, which requires more active work of all the stakeholders.

The cooperation of Smolensk region and the Republic of Latvia in all the identified areas, including the economic one, according to Astra Kurme, has really good prospects: "It's practically neighboring region, which is very closely related to us historically. We have businessmen who could come and see what mutually beneficial projects jointly we could carry out. We speak Russian. The Russian language is still widespread in Latvia".
