The Smolensk athletes summed up the results of the autumn season

In the regional center there was a meeting of the region's sports activists during which sporting achievements of the Smolensk region athletes were celebrated.

During the meeting, the experts, coaches and athletes received departmental awards from the Sports Ministry of Russia, Letters of Appreciation from the Governor, as well as cash rewards from the Administration of the region for the achieved results.

On the task of the Head of the region Alexey Ostrovskiy, Deputy Governor Lev Platonov greeted the Smolensk athletes and stressed that the high awards and achievements are preceded by heavy daily work which not everyone can endure: "Today we congratulate and reward our best athletes and coaches. Smolensk region has always been famous for its talented people - we have Olympic champions and world champions. And I think that those boys and girls who are now just beginning their sports career will become remarkable citizens of our great Russia and outstanding athletes".

Also, the results of the annual regional contest of sports schools of the region were announced. So, the best specialized sports school of the Olympic reserve was municipal Smolensk Children and Youth Sports school of the Olympic Reserve № 2 of Smolensk, among the city schools the best one is municipal Children and Youth Sports school № 4 of the regional center, among the rural sports schools the best one is municipal Children and Youth Sports school of Verkhnedneprovsky settlement in Dorogobuzh district. The rating is based on such indicators as wellness, mass sports, training and administrative-organizational activities.

Besides, the meeting summed up the results of the regional sports competition among the students of municipalities basing on the performance of the teams of the educational institutions. Among the teams from the cities the winner was the team of Smolensk, among the teams from the districts the best one was the team of the athletes from Smolensk district.

The best football teams were the football clubs "Avtodor" (League One) and "Fakel" from Dukhovshchina (League Two).

The most distinguished athletes received honor sports titles "Honored coach of Russia", "Master of Sports of Russia", as well as a qualification category "Sports referee of the All-Russian category".

The final results of the sports year will be announced at the end of December.
