The official opening of the main skating rink of Smolensk region

In the central square of Smolensk there was an opening ceremony of the main ice arena of the region. On this occasion, young figure skaters and hockey players gave a performance.

This year, on the task of the Head of the region Alexey Ostrovskiy to make it more convenient for the residents, the rink area was significantly enlarged, which will let the residents and visitors to Smolensk enjoy skating without interfering with each other. Traditionally, there is an ice hockey box near the skating rink, and, also, there is a cafe, changing rooms and sports equipment rental in the cozy wooden huts. On weekdays the rental will be open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the weekends - from 12.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m. Students up to 14 years old and pensioners can use this service free of charge. For others, the rent of a pair of skates will be only 50 rubles without any time limits. The people of Smolensk can get their own skates sharpened free of charge.

Also, Vice-governor Lev Platonov assured that the regional Administration will continue to carry out the work aimed at promoting physical culture, and will keep on opening available ice rinks in Smolensk region. Today, there are specially equipped ice rinks operating in each municipality, there are 62 of them in the region in total.
