The II Open Regional Championship "Young Professionals" started in Smolensk

The "Yubileiny" Sports Palace hosted the opening ceremony of the II Open Regional Championship "Young Professionals "(WorldSkills Russia). For three days more than a hundred young Smolensk residents receiving working professions are going to compete for the right to represent our region in the qualifying round of the National Championship.

The development of the modern vocational education system is closely linked with the WorldSkills (WSR) Championship. This is not just a competition but a large-scale movement of like-minded people who set themselves ambitious tasks to improve their professional skills in accordance with the best world standards and advanced technology.

According to the organizers, the Championship is aimed at increasing the prestige of working professions in the society, at encouraging young active people to make an informed choice in favor of working professions.

Today, WorldSkills movement is spreading over more and more regions of Russia. Smolensk region joined it in December, 2015, and the following year it hosted the First Regional WSR Championship. The representatives of the region received 12 medals at the national level championships.

This year, the regional Championship has expanded its competences from 12 to 15. Among the new disciplines there is "Composite Technology", "Entrepreneurship", and "Mobile Robotechnics" (Junior Skills) for the competitors aged 10-14. For the juniors, it is an excellent opportunity of getting vocational guidance and studying modern and, perhaps, future professional techniques. The participants’ performance will be assessed by more than 140 experts: masters of industrial training, teachers and employees of companies and organizations.
