REGIONAL INFORMATION SCIENCE OLYMPIAD IN SMOLENSK

On March 24^th, there was a regional information science Olympiad among students and cadets from educational institutions of higher vocational training. The contest was held in the Military Academy of Army Air Defense of Military Forces of the Russian Federation.

At the solemn opening of the competition, Deputy Governor, Head of the Department of information technologies, communication, and access to services in electronic form in the Smolensk region Peter Lopashinov wished the contestants to win.

‘Modern infocommunication technologies today are not only an integral part of our everyday life, their development is inseparably linked with the future, an increase of effectiveness of functioning of all the most important spheres of our region. The winners and the contestants of the competition make highly skilled specialists, as a rule, and enter the gold fund of personnel in the sphere of infocommunication technologies. I wish you success, irradiations of creation, and victory, only victory!’– said the Vice-governor.

The Olympiad has already become traditional for the Smolensk region – it is the eighth time it has been held, the number of contestants increases every year as well as the complexity of the tasks. On March 24^th and 25^th, over a hundred of full-time students and cadets of the first, second and third years of studies from 20 institutions of higher education of the region will contest in their knowledge of computer technologies. Each educational institution sends a team that includes up to five students and the leader from the teaching staff.

The Olympiad is being held in two nominations – ‘Programming’ and ‘Office and application programs’. It consists of two tours: first the contestants compete in their skill to use Microsoft Office standard software products, and second work out programs in programming languages of high level (Delphi, Pascal, Basic, С, etc).

The winners will be named in the individual championship in each nomination, the overall individual championship (the two nominations in sum), the team championship in each nomination and the overall team championship (judging by the best results of three members of the team in the overall individual championship).
