Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy invited the representatives of the business community - members of the All-Russian Public Organization "Delovaya Rossiya" headed by its president Alexey Repik to visit the Smolensk Plastic Products Plant and the Scientific Research Institute of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy at the Smolensk State Medical University during their visit to Smolensk Region.

As Rufat Tabasaransky, the founder of the company, said, the products of the Smolensk Plastic Products Plant, specializing in the production of capping plugs, are in demand on the Russian market.

The construction of the company began in 2013. In 2015, Administration of the region granted a subsidy for the development of production, and at the end of the year the plant was working at its full capacity. It employs 50 people.

Today, they provide a full range of services from design to delivery of the finished products. Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy, Alexey Repik and the business representatives could see it personally when visiting the foundry, the decoration workshop, and the assembly workshop, equipped with new modern equipment.

At the same time, it was noted that the production facilities of the plant allow to produce various products from plastic, including those intended for the needs of perfume and food industries, pharmaceutical and medical activities.

During the discussion of the development prospects Rufat Tabasaransky suggested creating a working group comprised of the representatives of the Industry and Trade Ministry, business community, the plant management, and the Investment Policy Department, which will develop a regional cluster for the production of various medical tools and equipment.

The delegation also visited the Scientific Research Institute of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, based at the Smolensk State Medical University.

Since 1999, the institution has been studying the immunity (resistance) of bacteria to antimicrobial drugs, resulting from various mutations. The creation of new antibiotics, capable of combating them, is another area of scientific research.

It should be noted that this is the only research institute in Russia that constantly conducts research of this level. The results of the Smolensk scientists’ work, along with the information of the world's leading medical centers, are included in the database of the World Bank on bacterial resistance. By the way, in 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) initiated creating WHO Collaborating Center for Capacity Building in Surveillance and Research on Antimicrobial Resistance (the only in our country and the first in Eastern Europe) on the basis of the Smolensk Research Institute.

At present, the staff of the Scientific Research Institute are working on one of the five projects that have been included in the sector HealthNet (Personal Medicine) of the National Technology Initiative, identified by President Vladimir Putin as one of the priorities of state policy.

The importance of this research is not only in studying the features of the emergence and spread of bacteria resistant to antibiotics, but also in optimizing their detection, as well as the treatment schemes for the infections that they cause.
