Every year, commemorative events dedicated to the anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War are held under the patronage of Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy and the Administration of Smolensk region.

On June 22, the Day of Memory and Grief, one of the most significant events will be the All-Russian action "Candle of Remembrance", in which the representatives of public, veteran, youth and patriotic associations, religious organizations, executive and legislative authorities will traditionally take part.

On the initiative of public organizations of Smolensk region, the action "Candle of Remembrance" has been held as part of a concert-requiem "Do the Russian want a war?" since 2016. Just as it was last year, the main venue for it will be the memorial complex "Field of Memory" near Vyazma. The concert-requiem will be performed by the V.P. Dubrovsky Smolensk Russian Folk Orchestra.

It should be reminded that in the “Vyazma boiler” in the fall of 1941, the Red Army lost about 400 thousand people, more than 600 thousand soldiers and officers were captured. Almost all the members of the State Brass Band of the USSR who were in the people's militia - more than 100 people – were killed here.

Such concerts-requiems are planned to be held by local musical groups in memorable places of each municipality of Smolensk region.
