To the 50th anniversary of the 1st space flight

The personal belongings, household goods of the sixties, archive documents and photographs of one of the most outstanding Smolensk people Yuri Gagarin and other unique displays of the Smolensk memorial estate are introduced in the historical section of the exhibition «The day of 12, April…»

The display consists of the memoirs of Gagarin’s relatives and friends, scientists and journalists, writers and poets. Based on the stories of the contemporaries and private meetings the organizers of the exhibition explore the life of the 1^st cosmonaut, his coming-to-be as a person, a pilot and then as a pioneer of the Universe.

The visitors of the exhibition can study his hard war childhood, school, technical school, Air-Force institutions. Yuri Gagarin’s chronic of life gives an idea of his personal qualities: modesty, industry, exactingness, breadth of views and originality of thought.

Vice-Governor Olga Okuneva, heads of the executives, students, intellectuals and representatives of mass media took part in the opening of the exhibition.
