Smolensk region has improved its position among the regions of Russia in terms of the competition development level

Smolensk region has been rated the 15th among all the 85 subjects of the Russian Federation and has entered the Top-20 regions in terms of the competition development level in 2016, having gone 5 points up in comparison with the results of the previous year.

The rating of the heads of the regions in terms of the competition development level was prepared by the autonomous non-profit organization "Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation" and shows an independent quality assessment of the system of work built by the Governors and their teams in this sphere.

According to the rating, Smolensk region takes a leading position among the regions of the Central Federal District and is ahead of 4 out of the 6 pilot regions (Ulyanovsk, Volgograd, Nizhny Novgorod regions and St. Petersburg) for the implementation of the Standard for the Competition Development in the Russian Federation Subjects, approved by the Government of the Russian Federation.

It should be reminded that the fundamental objectives of the Standard are to realize the market and points of economic growth development potential at the regional and municipal levels, improve the consumer choice quality, create conditions for healthy and fair competition, reduce administrative barriers and pressure from the dominant market players, foster innovation, and decrease the government sector in the economy.

It worth pointing out that the results of 2016 will be taken into consideration when assessing the effectiveness of the top officials of the Federation subjects to create favorable business environment.
