SMOLENSK HONOURED THE MEMORY OF THE PLANE CRASH-VICTIMS

On April 10th, 2010, the air liner Tu-154M with 96 people on board including President of Poland Lech Kaczynski crash-landed at the aerodrome ‘Smolensk - Severny’ (‘Northern’).

A year later, hundreds of Smolensk people came to the crash site to honour the memory of the victims of that tragedy. Wreaths and flowers from Governor of the Smolensk region Sergey Antufiev, the chairman of the regional Duma Anatoly Mishnev, leaders of Smolensk, and members of the public were laid on the stone immortalizing the memory of the Poles.

After that ceremony Sergey Antufiev talked with the journalists: ‘All citizens of Smolensk, the Smolensk region and I consider it our duty to honour the memory of the people who perished in that terrible plane crash a year ago. We all sympathize with the families and friends about the loss of their relations’.
