A working meeting of Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy with the representatives of the Japanese business community

Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy held a working meeting in which the heads of major Japanese companies - Yukio Tamm, Director General of Hokkaido Corporation, and Kimbar Masaki, a representative of JF Engineering, took part. The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation in the field of agriculture, as well as opportunities of attracting Japanese investments and technology to the economy of Smolensk region.

The trading company Hokkaido Corporation was established to support the local companies entering the international markets. At present, it has an extensive business network covering the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the ASEAN countries. JFE Engineering is a Japanese engineering company that, in addition to developing technology in the field of energy, develops projects in the field of agribusiness. The company ranks first in the production of steel and pipes in the domestic market of Japan.
The Japanese investor spoke about a promising project in the field of animal husbandry. It is known that after a milk cow's milk productivity falls, the animal is sent for slaughter, however, it is sometimes difficult to sell the meat. As a rule, such beef is tough and not suitable for eating. Yukio Tamm explained that by changing the feeding technology through using biologically active additives, including linseed oil, the quality of meat improves, and it can even be used for steaks. Similar technology is successfully used in Japan. Currently, the Corporation is searching for a site on the Russian market, where it would be possible to demonstrate how this happens in practice.
Taking this information into account, the Head of the region instructed Rostislav Rovbel, his deputy, to assist the representatives of Japanese business in finding business partners from the Russian side for joint implementation of the projects in these areas.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to keep in touch and coordinate efforts to establish cooperation. "I am confident that today's meeting will bring a practical result that will manifest itself in the implementation of specific investment projects," Alexey Ostrovskiy summed up the discussion.
