A working meeting of Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy and Igor Petrishenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation

Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy had a working meeting with Igor Petrishenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus in the Russian Federation, during which the parties discussed a number of issues on cooperation between Smolensk region and the Republic of Belarus in the commercial, economic, industrial, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of industrial cooperation, in particular, launching on the territory of Smolensk region joint production of equipment of the Minsk Tractor Plant, products of which are in demand both in our region and in a number of neighboring regions of the Russian Federation.

In addition, Alexey Ostrovskiy and Igor Petrishenko discussed the expansion of cooperation in the agricultural sector, including growing flax and animal husbandry, as well as in transport and logistics. It should be reminded that now a large logistics center, the capacity of which can be used by Belarusian business people, is being constructed in Kardymovo district. Another topic of the discussion was the expansion of the capacity of the Vitebsk airport for the Belarusian airlines to be able to make flights to the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory and other cities of Russia. "Such flights will be in demand with the residents of Smolensk region, as the airport in Vitebsk is convenient for the residents of the region due to its proximity to the region," pointed the Governor.

Summing up the results of the meeting, Alexey Ostrovskiy drew attention to the coincidence of a number of topics proposed for discussion by the parties. "This shows that we have a lot in common, and our interaction is encouraged, first of all, by the interests of Smolensk region residents and citizens of the Republic of Belarus. We are interested in having the largest Belarusian companies on the territory of the region, in cooperation in the flax industry. During the meeting, we agreed on particular step to be taken by my subordinates and representatives of Belarus to put the plans discussed today into practice," said the Governor.
