A volunteer project "Healthy village" is being carried out in Smolensk region

In Smolensk region, with the support of the Administration of the region, a volunteer project "Healthy Village" is being carried out. It is aimed at assisting municipalities that have a shortage of medical personnel and providing medical and advisory assistance to residents of rural settlements.

Activists of the regional branch of the All-Russian Public Volunteer Movement in Healthcare "Doctors-Volunteers", doctors, lecturers, residents of the Smolensk State Medical University, and employees of the Medical Prevention Regional Center took part in the project.

"We travel to various parts of the region where specialists give lectures, for example, on the prevention of diabetes or HIV infection, and provide check-ups to everybody who wants. The results of sociological surveys show that the level of medical literacy is not high enough in the rural areas, therefore, our first priority is to tell people about the simplest methods of preventing diseases, to refute the most common myths," says Anton Korotchenko, the regional coordinator of the All-Russian Volunteer Movement in Healthcare.

In fact, at the beginning of this year the Project became one of the winners of the All-Russian competition "I Want to Do Good" and received a grant of 300 thousand rubles. According to the organizers of the "Healthy Village" program, the money will be used to print out information materials, rent buses for trips to municipalities, purchase technical equipment and uniform for volunteers.
