During a two-day business mission to the Netherlands, the delegation of Smolensk region, headed by Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy, discussed with the business community of the European state directions of mutually beneficial cooperation in the industrial and transport spheres.

In particular, on the first day of the business mission, the Governor held a meeting with the management of Broekman Logistics, a logistics company specializing in rail, road, sea and intermodal shipment. During the meeting, the parties discussed long-term plans for the development of the Company in Russia and considered the benefits of implementing an investment project in Smolensk region.

In addition, on the same day, the Governor together with Andrei Makarov, the Head of the Trade Representation of the Russian Federation, discussed a number of topical business issues with Alexander Shulgin, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

It should be noted that the Dutch business is already represented in Smolensk region. Thus, Hortilife supplies greenhouse structures, heating systems, irrigation and other materials for the greenhouse sector. In fact, at the Smolensk greenhouse complex under construction in Roslavl District, Hortilife specialists are already setting up water treatment and dosing of mineral fertilizers systems.

In addition, in order to establish business cooperation, Alexey Ostrovskiy met with the top management of Philips Holding, which began producing medical equipment in Russia in 2017. During the bilateral meeting, it was planned to continue the negotiations begun at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in May this year. The program of the working visit also included a presentation of the economic and investment potential of Smolensk region for the representatives of the Dutch business community. As a reminder: the total foreign trade turnover of the region with the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the first 8 months of 2018 was about $ 26.2 million, which is almost 2 times more than the same period last year.
