At the 4th Smolensk Regional Socio-Economic Forum “Territory of Development”, which is taking place these days in the regional center, the ceremony of signing the Agreement on Cooperation between the Administration of Smolensk Region and AO “Special Economic Zones” (joint-stock company) was held. The document was signed by Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy and Deputy General Director Dmitry Golosov.

The creation of special economic zones (SEZ) is a large-scale project aimed at developing the subjects of the Federation by attracting Russian and foreign investments in high-tech industries, import-substituting production, tourism, etc.

The state gives each special economic zone a special legal status that provides investors with a number of tax breaks and customs preferences. In the SEZ territories there are most favorable conditions for doing business - engineering, transport and social infrastructure facilities are built, which minimizes the investor’s own expenses and allows to implement investment projects most efficiently.

On the basis of the Agreement signed at the Forum, the cooperation of the parties will be aimed at developing special economic zones in Smolensk region, as well as at improving the investment climate in the region as a whole. In particular, it is planned to create the first SEZ at the site of the Alfa Trans customs and logistics center (Stabna, Smolensk region). It is planned that the total investment in the project will be about 3 billion rubles.
