Smolensk region is among the "pilot" regions for the implementation of Regional Export Standard 2.0

As a result of the meeting of the “International Cooperation and Export” project committee for the strategic development of the Russian Federation, the regions of Russia taking part in the introduction program of Regional Export Standard 2.0. were determined. Smolensk region has been listed among the ten pilot regions.

The standard for providing favorable conditions for the development of export activities is a document developed by the experts of the Russian Export Center (REC) in order to improve the export environment taking into account regional specifics. The program includes a set of measures that contribute to enhancing export activities, creating the infrastructure, and increasing the number of exporters and exported products. First of all, the implementation of the Standard involves the development of the 5 key elements among which there is defining export as a priority in the region development, popularizing export activities, export acceleration and measures of state support for exporters.

The introduction of the Standard is expected to contribute to the improvement of the export support system in Smolensk region, as well as to creating favorable export environment, to emergence of a new infrastructure and development of an existing one.

It should be pointed out that Smolensk region has become one of the “pilot” regions largely due to the efforts of the Administration of the region and personally Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy and their contacts with the Russian Export Center and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. “Our President, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, has set an ambitious task - to have increased the volume of non-energy non-oil exports by almost 2 times by 2024. To do this, we must actively use our export potential. The Administration of Smolensk region, relevant departments, regional export support centers are constantly working to provide state support in the field of export and introducing local producers to foreign markets. The implementation of the Regional Export Standard will let us be one of the first to test the mechanisms for supporting export business,” said Governor Alexey Ostrovsky.
