A working meeting of Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy and Pavel Kolobkov, Minister of Sports of Russian Federation

In Moscow, there was a working meeting of Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy and Pavel Kolobkov, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, during which the parties discussed developing the region’s sports industry, as well as implementing the federal project “Sport is the Standard of Life” in Smolensk region.

In particular, during the meeting, they talked about the implementation of an investment project for the construction of the Valutino year-round sports and recreation ski complex in Smolensk region, the development of pentathlon and horse-riding sports at the Smolensk State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Summing up the discussion, Pavel Kolobkov, Minister of Sports, pointed out that over some years, Smolensk region has become an important partner in implementing the federal target program for the development of physical education and sports in the Russian Federation for 2016-2020.

And now, according to the Minister of Sports, there is a new task - the implementation of the federal project “Sport is the Standard of Life”. And as Pavel Kolobkov emphasized, for the next five years this will become the basis for interaction between the region and the Ministry.

“We have substantively discussed ways to achieve the project targets,” said the Minister of Sports.

Summarizing the work that is being carried out in Smolensk region, Pavel Kolobkov emphasized that much is being done in the region for the development of sports.

As an example, the Minister gave the Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism, at which all necessary conditions for training students have been created. In particular, teams are formed, there is a good material base, training opportunities.

During the meeting with the Governor, according to Pavel Kolobkov, they discussed the possibility of further improving the material base of the Academy and opening new faculties for winter and horse-riding sports. The latter can be done by transferring the V.N. Tikhonov Sports School of the Olympic reserve, located in the village of Odintsovo, to the operational management of the sports Academy.

“We think that we will be able to implement this project, and moreover, I am very glad to see that Alexey Vladimirovich is deeply interested in this and personally supports the project,” noted Pavel Kolobkov, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation.

Pavel Kolobkov also expressed his intention to visit Smolensk in June this year in order to discuss ways of further cooperation thoroughly.

In his turn, Alexey Ostrovskiy expressed gratitude to the Minister of Sports for the high assesment of the work of the Regional Administration regarding the implementation of tasks of President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin on the development of physical culture and sports.

According to the Governor, during the working meeting the region was highly praised for the fact that these tasks are being carried out. The work of the Regional Administration is assessed as effective. And this, according to Alexey Ostrovskiy, is extremely worthy.

“Special thanks to the Minister for supporting the initiative of the regional Administration for the construction of the ski complex and creation of a training base for the Smolensk State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism”, - said the Head of the region.

The Administration of the region, according to Alexey Ostrovskiy, in the near future, together with the management of the Academy of Sports will begin to develop a plan and design and financial estimate documentation, after which, in collaboration with the Ministry, personally with Pavel Kolobkov, they will contact the Government of the Russian Federation with an issue of possibility to finance this project from the federal funds.
