On the eve of the Independence Day of Belarus celebrations went on in the Smolensk drama theatre.
In the street and in the hall of the theatre people could visit the exhibition of popular craftwork items. The deputy governor - head of the administrative office of Smolensk region Olga Okuneva and vice-governor Alexander Volodin, head of the department of the Embassy of Republic of Belarus in Smolensk Nikolay Kutsko saw handmade items from rod, clay, wood and other materials made by the inhabitants of the frontier districts which are situated between Smolensk and Belarus.
Representatives of two fraternal nations took part in the solemn ceremony. The governor Sergey Antufiev has sent his greeting to the participants: «I congratulate you from the bottom of my heart with the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus! We remember those who sacrificed their life and brought a long-awaited freedom for our nations. The Independence Day of Belarus is a token event not only for Byelorussian people. Tragic and heroic events of the Great Patriotic War are our common history, common memory, pains and joy of the Victory. On this day I wish good health, happiness, good spirits and optimism, success at your activity in the name of prosperity of our fraternal nations».
The performance of the Presidential orchestra of the Republic of Belarus under the guidance of Viktor Babarukin has become the climax of the holiday.
