200 years since the Victory of Russia in the Patriotic war 1812

During the next news briefing of the regional mass media the head of the Culture Department of Smolensk region Yuriy Gerasev has informed about restoration works of the monument devoted to the defenders of Smolensk 4-5 August 1812, located in the territory of Lopatinskiy sad in Smolensk.

Works are financed at the expense of the federal budget at the rate more than four million rubles and are made by specialists of the restoration center of the Central Council of All-Russian community on history and culture monuments conservation of the Ministry of Culture. The works are made as part of preparation for two anniversary celebrations – 200 years since the Victory of Russia in the Patriotic War 1812 and 1150 years since the foundation of Smolensk.

Gilding of the monument parts with gold leaf, painting of metal constructions, cleaning and restoration of white stone plinth, parts made of color metals, toning and greening of guns are the works in process. The restoration works are planned to be completed by the 1-st  of September.
