We’ll meet a victory of the Russian army in the Patriotic War 1812 with dignity!

Next year 200 years of victory of Russia will be passed since its victory in the Patriotic War 1812.

A long-time regional target program «200 years since the victory in Patriotic war in 1812» is approved by Decree of Administration of Smolensk region.

At present the glorious history of our country becomes especially important. The society and state search the ways for overcoming of moral values crisis and strengthening of national self-consciousness. So the Patriotic War of 1812 plays a key role in the domestic history. It is the period when a national self-consciousness has really grown up.

Just in the territory of Smolensk province the war in 1812 became Patriotic. Here a range of important battles went on. These battles were decisive in the oncoming victory over the Napoleon. These are fighting in Smolensk, battles in Vyazma and Dorogobuzh, and fierce fighting near Krasny in November, after them «Great Army» has stopped existing as an organized defense formation. The last fighting with the French in the Russian territory near Krasny has destroyed the enemy. But there are memorable places in Smolensk which are connected with the events of the Patriotic War 1812, but not immortalized yet: Valutina mountain, villages Solovievo and Lyakhovo, heroes graves 1812 – General Olenin and lieutenant colonel Engel’gardt and others.

The regional target program is called to raise cultural and touristic attractiveness of Smolensk region, which made a great contribution to the victory of Russia in the Patriotic War 1812. Besides it is planned a scale repair and restoration of the monuments in honor of the victory of Russia in the Patriotic War 1812.
