The Moscow citizen soldiers memory is immortalized in Smolensk region
The monument in honor of citizen soldiers, defending Moscow in 1941, was inaugurated on 26 November at the Field of Memory in Kholm - Zhirkovskiy district.
The first deputy of the Governor of Smolensk region Mikhail Kurkov, prefect of the North-Eastern administrative division of Moscow Valeriy Vinogradov, relatives of soldiers of the 13th Rostokino division, veterans, the public, representatives of children and youth organizations of Smolensk region, Moscow and the Moscow area took part in the ceremony devoted to the 70 years of heroic deed of the 13th Rostokino division.
The 13-th division of the people’s emergency volunteer corps was made in July 1941 and after the training took up the struggle. By October 1941 the division went on the Rzevsko-Vyazemsky lines of defense, western side of the Dnieper River and estuary in Vyazma. By 13 October the whole division has practically died. Commemorative token was set up in honor of citizen soldiers in 1985 in settlement Kazarinovo Kholm-Zhirkovskiy district.
Author of citizen soldiers of the 13th Rostokino division monument is Maria Tikhonova, Moscow monumentalist. Peter Povolotskiy, head of the Rostokino district, Moscow became initiator of monument building his idea was supported in prefecture.
