Officer ball in Smolensk

Four years ago upon an initiative of the Head of the region in Smolensk was restored an age-old tradition of officer balls. On the eve of the Defender of the Fatherland Day representatives of Smolensk garrison command, excelled officers with married couples were invited in cultural center «Gubernskiy» to participate together with regional officials in secular rout.

Ball was opened by Governor of Smolensk region. Sergey Antufiev, colonel of reserve appealed to audiences with congratulations «For Smolensk Defender of the Fatherland Day is a special holiday because history of our region inseparably geographically connects with history of the Russian state. They say about Smolensk as about defender of Russia and there are good reasons for it. As legatees of such great history we could not have rights to commit to oblivion famous traditions to honor. They say that army is strong thanks soldiers and we understand that it strong by commanders, by officers. Thank you for your changing of such a manful profession to protect your Homeland. This fact gives confidence that arms are in secure hands and our military establishment can give a rebuff every enemy».

Solemn part was combined with concert program and officers danced with their fragrant married couples to a magic music of waltzes.
