Natives of Smolensk have celebrated Cosmonautics Day

Today Smolensk region as and all Russian and whole the world celebrate Cosmonautics Day. Yury Gagarin, our fellow-townsman has performed the first flight into space 51 years ago. He has flied circumterrestrial on spacecraft «Vostok».

Traditionally meeting has taken place in Gagarin square near by bust of the first cosmonaut of the planet. In this meeting participated heads of executive authority and legislature of our region, veterans of armed forces, representatives of public organizations, students and schoolchildren, natives of Smolensk.

Aleksey Murygin, vice-governor has sent his greetings to participants and has addressed to young natives of Smolensk: «Heroic deed of Yury Gagarin, his smile and cheerfulness must be an example for our growing up generation. You must also long for new victories and new stars with self-belief».

Gymnasium students have pledged as young Gagarintsy and have recruited the most numerous public organization of Smolensk region.

Flowers were laid to Gagarin's bust.

Heads of the region and city have been gone to Nikolaeva street and have laid flowers to bust of Andrian Nikolaev, pilot-cosmonaut of USSR, twice Hero of the Soviet Union honorary citizen of Smolensk. In August will be celebrated 50 jubilee of the first space flight that has been lasted during four days.

Last year by resolution of the United Nations General Assembly the 12-th of April has been proclaimed as the International Day of the first man-in-space flight that is celebrating now internationally.
