Sports contest of municipal districts of Smolensk region

The solemn ceremony of opening of traditional yearly sports contest of municipal districts of Smolensk region was held on Saturday, the 16-th of June on municipal stadium of Safonovo.

Vice governor Nikolai Kuznetsov acted before sportsmen and supporters with welcome address, after that was kindled a flame as a symbol of start of competitions.

Representatives of 27 municipal districts of Smolensk region participated in the final stage of Sports contest devoted to the 60-th anniversary from the date of Smolensk foundation. The first stage was finished on the 26- th of May in Vyazma.  And there were already determined favourites in various disciplines – kettlebell lifting, weight throwing, tug-of-war, weight shifting, arm wrestling and pickup basketball. For this time sportsmen of Smolensk region competed in volleyball, arena football and track and field events.

Smolensk was the first in overall standing, among regional districts the strongest sportsmen were from Elnya and Glynka district.
