Celebration was held in Smolensk to honor the Republic of Belarus Independence Day

On the eve of the Republic of Belarus public holiday – Independence Day – celebrations were held in Smolensk drama theatre to commemorate this memorable date.

An exhibition of Belarus folk craftsmen’s art and barrel making class works was held in the theatre lobby for the visitors. Deputy Governor Nikolay Kuznetsov and divisional head of the embassy of Repulic of Belarus Nikolay Kutsko viewed the exhibits made of willow, clay, wood and other materials.

After that, a festive assembly was held featuring Governor Alexey Ostrovsky and Chairman of Smolensk region Duma Anatoly Mishnev.

“The fact that so many Smolensk residents came to the celebration held for our brothers, our neighbours and our partners shows how great the interest of Smolensk people for our Belarus friends is. It shows how important Belarus and its people are for our great region.

We have common history and our future is common, confirmed by blood ties and connections. We must do all we can to support our neighbourship by specific actions including those in economic cooperation which, I am sure, will evolve day by day. We’ll progress step by step to let the fraternal peoples feel the outcome of these actions,”Alexey Ostrovsky mentioned in his speech.

The high point of the celebration was the show by Republic of Belarus performers.
