The Holiest Patriarch consecrated a new church in Smolensk

On the second day of his visit in Smolensk consecratedthe Holiest Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill memorial church the Resurrection of Christand  in Katyn and visited  Russian and Polish parts of memorial devoted to victims of political repressions.

Problem of importance and meaningfulness of Orthodox Church building near by memorial was repeatedly discussed by Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church during his direction of Smolensk eparchy.

All works were begun in 2010 according directive of the Holiest Patriarch Kirill. Vladimir Putin – Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Donald Tusk – Chairman of Council of Ministers of Poland laid in Aprill 2010 a foundation stone in base of this church. Nowadays campanile, well and administrative units are built on territory near by church and make all together a perfect complex. In the scope of the project of temple ensemble is foreseen a big complex of building for social work with public and especially with children.

On Sunday, the 15-th of July was conducted the consecration of memorial church the Resurrection of Christandby the Holiest Patriarch Kirill. Divine service participated Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy, Chairman of Smolensk regional Duma Anatoliy Mishnev, Main federal controller in Smolensk region Olga Okuneva, military attache of the Republic of Poland Yaroslav Navrotek, members of delegation of the Оrthodox Polish Order.

The Holiest Patriarch Kirill, Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy and others representatives of regional authority and the public, guests of Smolensk region visited memorial complex «Katyn'» after Divine Liturgy in memorial church.

Patriarch accomplished litiya on Memory Avenue that units Russian and Polish part of memorial complex.
