"The Paralympic Mile" in Smolensk

Rehabilitation center «Vishenki» for disabled children and young people with disabilities met participants of international project «The Paralympic Mile». Olga Vasilyeva - Deputy of Governor, representatives of Administration of Smolensk region, volunteers from Belarus participated in the solemn meeting with representatives of delegation of the Federation of cycle mobile Sports and Tourism of Moscow(only in Russia).  

Project «The Paralympic Mile» is a sporting event for disabled engaged in specialized cycling. The most popular for people with disabilities are «quad bicycles» - cycle mobiles. This kind of sport allows people with disabilities to keep fit, combining classes in sports hall and in the open air. This is especially true for patients with disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Additionally, cycle mobile sport helps disabled to focus their will power and to achieve goals and allows become more confident in their own physical and social opportunities.

Olga Vasilyeva emphasized in her speech all importance of such an example of overcoming of themselves that showed children with disabilities from Moscow.

«I am pleased to welcome you, our dear guests, and thank you for your arriving at our wonderful institution not only to give gifts to children, but also to show them that today we can and must believe hope and move forward. You are proving that your life has no limits», - vice Governor noted.

Ceremonial presentation of gifts to participants of an international project took place after complimentary speech of representatives of regional Administration. In their turn, the guests shared their plans for a big cycling team and looked forward for participation in it of natives of Smolensk. Supporting their intentions a cycle mobile was presented to rehabilitation center «Vishenki».

Performances of students of Smolensk State Institute of Arts became an adorning of ceremony.

It should be noted that the visit of Smolensk is one of the stages of the international project of cycle races «The Paralympic Mile» in major cities of the European part of the Russian Federation. As sports activities for people with disabilities includes cycle mobile race «The Paralympic Mile» sport events in Moscow and the trip around the world, races in big cities of Russia (Moscow-Vladivostok), in Canada and Western Europe.
