In Smolensk was found a church foundation of the XII century

Aleksey Ostrovskiy discussed the importance and perspectives of unique find - a temple of pre-Mongol period with archaeologists Konstantin Voronin and Grigory Pronin, his first Deputy Michael Pitkevich, Head of the Administration of Smolensk - Nicholas Alasheyev in the presence of regional media.

Foundation of ancient temple was discovered at a construction site near by Bolschaya Krasnoflotskaya Street. According to the scientists this is the Small temple Pyatnitsky Torg, time of construction dates back to the third quarter of the XII century. The study of the remains of temples and the surrounding area is of great interest to scientists - this can judge the level of socio-economic and cultural life of Smolensk and its foreign relations, and the role of Orthodoxy in the history of the Russian state.

 "I will ask the Acting Attorney of Smolensk region to pay close attention to the control of the legality and preservation of this object", - said Aleksey Ostrovsky in the discussion. He also announced his intention to discuss the prospects for the study and preservation of the unique finds with the Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky himself.

"It is the common Christian heritage", - noted the Head of the region, the developer requested to submit requirements how should look the construction site from the point of view of conservation of the property.  Alexei Ostrovsky also expressed willingness to meet on a routine basis with representatives of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which will soon arrive in Smolensk forfurther study of the pre-Mongol temple foundation.
