The meeting at the bust of Gagarin on the Cosmonautics Day

Today the Smolensk region, just like the rest of Russia, celebrates Cosmonautics Day. 52 years ago our countryman Yuri Gagarin made the first human flight into space, orbiting the Earth in the spaceship "Vostok". Traditionally, on April, 12 there was a meeting held on the Day of Cosmonautics in Smolensk.

Leaders of the city and region, the military and veterans, members of the public, school and university students, residents and guests of the city came to the bust of the space pioneer.

All the speakers noted that thanks to the unparalleled feat, as well as the titanic work of our scientists, designers, testers, a Smolensk guy Yuri Gagarin became a part of the planet Earth history and opened new horizons in the development of humanity.

Here at the bust of Yuri Gagarin the students of Smolensk School No 25 gave an oath of a member of the “Gagarintzy” organization and joined the ranks of the largest in the Smolensk region children's public organization named after Yuri Gagarin.

Then the participants of the meeting laid flowers at the bust of Yuri Gagarin and went to Nikolaev street, where they laid flowers at the bust of Soviet cosmonaut, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, an honorary citizen of the city of Smolensk Andrian Nikolayev.
