Over 50,000 people of the Smolensk region took part in the all-region Cleaning Day

On April, 27 more than 50,000 residents of the Smolensk region: employees of regional and municipal institutions, agencies, companies and volunteers - took part in the all-region Cleaning Day initiated by Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy.

The Cleaning Day was held in all the district centers, Smolensk, Desnogorsk and 288 rural settlements. Besides cleaning public territories, yards, streets and green areas, special attention was paid to military memorials and graves, cultural heritage facilities.

The regional Administration officials were working all around Smolensk. They cleaned Park of 1100th anniversary of Smolensk, the Tree Nursery, Readovskiy Park, the shore of Readovskoe and Dubrovenskoe lakes and other areas.

Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy, the officials of the Smolensk region Administration, heads of executive agencies actively participated. For several hours the regional authorities were cleaning the favorite recreation spot of Smolensk people - Lopatinskiy garden.

"We are here today to clean this wonderful place - Lopatinsky garden, where we all walk with our families and children. Of course, we should litter less. Of course, we shouldn’t let such urgent need for cleaning occur though we enjoy doing it all together. But I hope that together with the City Administration we will change the situation and Lopatinskiy garden, the streets of the city will look different. This year we are celebrating the anniversary of the city and many guests will come. So I am here to clean up the city and enjoy doing it together with my deputies and other administration officials. I know that people all over the region came out to clean up. And that's good. But it is better to keep the region clean all year round," - said Alexey Ostrovskiy talking to the press.
