Tourism potential of the Smolensk region was highly praised

From 16th to 18th of May the Exhibition Center "Gostiny Dvor", Moscow, hosted The Moscow International Travel Fair «MITF - 2013". At the fair the delegation from the Smolensk region presented 13 projects.

The International Travel Fair has been held for the thirteenth time. The purpose of the event, which annually attracts thousands of participants, is to present the best tourism opportunities in Russia and the world. This year, several hundreds of travel agencies from 30 countries and 53 regions of Russia, as well as dozens of hotels and museums presented their products and services at the fair. The delegation of the Smolensk region was among the participants.

The main event of MITF-2013 for our region was The National Open Fair of Event and Youth Tourism «Russian open Event Expo», within which the 1st All-Russian competition in the field of event tourism was held. Smolensk region actively participated in the competition submitting 18 projects.

The Expert Council of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, one of the organizers of the competition, selected 13 best projects submitted from our region, the presentation of which took place on 16th and 17th of May.

The project presentation at the fair consists of the exhibition stand and an interactive presentation of the projects in the thematic sectors in 11 categories.

As a result the Smolensk region won five prizes, as well as the special prize. The main award of the 1st All-Russian competition in the field of event tourism - the title "Capital of event tourism" was given to the Vyazemskiy municipal district.

Vyazma was distinguished in several categories: in the category "Innovative event-project" the town was awarded the first prize (for the project Travel Fair "Festival of Viazemsky honey cake"), and in the category "Business Projects" the event project "Vyazma opens its doors" won the second prize.

The settlement Kardymovo won two awards: the second prize in the category "Historical reconstructions" for its project "The Festival of The Lubino Battle Reenacting”, and the third prize for the International Tourist Festival "Solovyova Pereprava» in the category "Patriotic and civic education".

The special prize was awarded to Dukhovshchina for the project The International Youth Festival "Potemkinskie Zabavy".

In all categories the projects presented by the Smolensk region were distinguished by the certificates of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
