A bronze bust of Alexander Dargomizhskiy set up in Vyazma

The ceremony of opening the monument to Alexander Dargomizhskiy took place in Vyazma in connection with the 200th anniversary of the famous composer celebrated this year. The greater part of the money for its creation was allocated from the Reserve Fund of the Governor Alexey Ostrovskiy.

A native of the Tula province Alexander Dargomizhskiy spent the first four years of his life in the Smolensk region, and then visited it regularly. Now, there is a memorial stone to the composer in the former estate of the Dargomizhskiy family in Tverdunivo village of the Yuhnovsky County (Vyazemsky district at present).

On Sunday, May, 26, the memory of the founder of the realist movement in Russian music was immortalized by opening a bust of the composer. Earlier this year, when the 200th anniversary of Alexander Dargomizhskiy celebrations were held, it was decided that the monument in Vyazma would appear as part of the 56th International Mikhail Glinka Music Festival, which is being held these days in Smolensk. The names of the famous composers are not brought together by chance - they were not only colleagues, but also friends.

The height of the bronze bust of Alexander Dargomizhskiy is 90 cm, the total height of the monument is 2.4 meters. The monument is decorated with the ornaments in the form of score lines from the composer's famous work "Rusalka". The author of the bust is a Belarusian sculptor Igor Chumakov, the creator of the monument to Yury Nikulin in Demidov and Anatoly Papanov in Vyazma.
