The traditional event "We are the citizens of Russia" was held in Smolensk

Just before the Day of Russia, which is a national holiday, the Administration of the Smolensk region hosted the annual event "We are the citizens of Russia", which is aimed at promoting patriotism and increasing young people’s awareness of the "citizen of Russia" concept.

Deputy Governor Olga Vasilyeva congratulated the children, representing all the municipalities of the region, on one of the youngest public holidays. She noted that the current generation is the future of Russia. Today’s young people are those who will continue the tradition of the great state and of the Smolensk homeland, those who will be written about in the History textbooks.

Also, Olga Vasilyeva spoke to the young Smolensk people about patriotism. "Our Motherland begins at home, with a song that you mom is singing to you. Motherland is also a small village, which you live in, it is our heroic Smolensk land which is rich in history, glorious battles and hard work. And, of course, Motherland is our wonderful country, Russia. I would like to see you, guys, walking through life, always remembering that success is given only to those who can overcome difficulties. This is the way our country, Russia, has been going", - added the vice-governor.

At the event the badges of honor "For active participation in the patriotic education of the Russian Federation citizens" from the Russian State Military Historical and Cultural Center of the Government of the Russian Federation were awarded to the members of the band "Trassera" of the Culture and Entertainment Center "Gubernskiy" and to the representatives of the Culture and Tourism Committee of the Administration of the Vyazemskiy district.

On this day, the citizens who have contributed much to the patriotic education, by showing their patriotism in social, military, and professional activities, received the "Patriot of Russia" medals.

At the event Deputy Governor Olga Vasilyeva also presented the passports of the Russian Federation citizens to the young people who showed outstanding achievements in academic studies, sports and community service.

46 young people of Smolensk received their main document on that day.
